Charles Abdullah (Service No 6762) was born in Mount Lebanon, Syria around 1875.

When Charles enlisted he was single, 42 years old, lived at Port Kembla, N.S.W., and worked as a  labourer.  Charles listed his brother, Richard Abdullah, of Bungendore via Cooma, N.S.W. as his next of kin.

Charles embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana with 20th Reinforcements, 17th Battalion on 16th June 1917.  The troops arrived in England on 25th August 1917 and Charles spent the next 6 months in training.

He joined 17th Battalion in France on 17th March 1918, and saw service on the Western Front until 11th August 1918 when he was wounded in action.

Charles was evacuated to 20th Casualty Clearing Station for treatment of a back wound, and on 29th August he was moved to hospital in England.

On 19th October 1918 Charles was returned to Australia and discharged medically unfit on 2nd February 1919.

I've had a look at the AIF Project link and also the Attestation form for Charles Abdullah's enlistment, and both list his next of kin as Richard Abdullah of Bungendore (not Michael).
